Angry Reader of the Week: Alice Wong, Hell on Wheels

A dynamic Asian woman

hailing from the Mid West, now living in good ol' San Fran, California. As a disabled Asian American woman, Alice encounters and triumphs over daily physical and social challenges. Alice doesn't like being coddled or pitied and hates when people are surprised that she is a career woman. She is a Staff Research Associate at the Community Living Policy Center at University of California San Francisco. Though she is disabled, autonomy is her greatest asset, "Independence is a state of mind."

What makes Alice angry

The world's disillusionment toward the disabled Asian population, the silence that surrounds race issues in America, and when disability is kept out of the realm of diversity.

Personal Insight

The subject of disability, much like racism in America, is very much so swept under the rug and kept hush-hush. Until we address disability and racism and give these individual issues the attention they require, bigotry against anyone who is different than ourselves, will never be fully eradicated.
