Poverty Mentality

by Glenn Robinson

Financial poverty seems to nurture mental poverty. When you see people who have a nicer home, car, clothes and go to a nicer school you might start to think that you don't have nice things because you are less then they are. That you don't deserve what they have. This thinking would bring along the idea of "They also don't care about me", and in turn "Maybe they're right. Maybe I should accept the poverty that I have;" which is all the more reason for all of us to fight against poverty.

461: TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN FOR OFFICE

Dr. Cornel West describes the U.S. as a plutocracy and oligarchy, if you were not sure before, this episide will make it crystal clear.

"For anyone who has ever heard the term "Washington insider" and felt outside — we are with you. So this week, we go inside the rooms where the deals get made, to the actual moment that the checks change hands — and we ask the people writing and receiving the checks what, exactly, is the money buying?"

Four types of Capitalism

Not every economy fits into one of these. Most have all four elements.

Oligarchic Capitalism
Where the resources and power are in the hands of the few, like the U.S. and Russia

State-guided Capitalism
Not communism, the state directs where the resources go, like in the China, India and the U.S.

Big-Firm Capitalism

Like the U.S., Western Europe and Japan

Entrepreneurial Capitalism

Dominated by new firms, like the U.S. and Israel

Best to have a combination of Big-Firms and New Firms.

On a lighter note, this cartoon is from a tshirt that I first saw on one of the software engineers at MokaFive.
